General Information on the Input list for organic agriculture

The use of inputs in organic farming is regulated in different legal bases and directives of private organisations.

In the German Input list, only those input products are listed, that were evaluated positively by experts of FiBL Projekte GmbH regarding their accordance with the principles of organic farming considering their usability in Germany. When evaluating inputs, the experts of FiBL Projekte GmbH take legal requirements (i.a. EC-regulation No. 834/2007 and the EC-regulation 889/2008) into account as well as scientific criteria. The criteria of the current IFOAM-norms are also consulted. Additionally to the active substances, which are defined by law, the co-formulations and additives are also checked in the evaluation process. With the creation of the Input list FiBL Projekte GmbH aims for the following goals:

  • To provide control- and certification bodies with an important basis for the control of organic farms and the secure check of used inputs
  • To provide manufacturers with reliable information about the usability of inputs in organic farming
  • To give manufacturers, control bodies and organisations in the organic sector security, that the principles of organic farming are considered when using inputs

Under the name “European Input List” (www.inputs.eu), the input team of FiBL Projekte GmbH works and cooperates with their colleagues of FiBL Switzerland, FiBL Europe and infoXgen (Austria).
